In this guide
Begin with eligibility, not a promise
Google says a page must be indexed and eligible for a search snippet to qualify as a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Meeting those conditions does not guarantee inclusion. Review the original guidance linked below when making a launch decision.
Focus on the website conditions you can inspect. A proposal that promises a specific generated-answer placement should explain how that claim could be substantiated.
Check the actual page response
Choose a relevant page and inspect its response, indexing directives, and accessible content. Check the canonical destination when one is configured. Verify that a visitor can reach the page through normal navigation.
Document the result with an actual date and supporting evidence. A checklist tick without a page URL or observation is difficult for someone else to verify later.
Make the answer useful on its own
State the main answer clearly, then explain qualifications and supporting context. Keep service facts accurate and provide evidence for claims that need it. The page should help a person even when they arrive through an ordinary link.
Avoid inventing a statistic or exaggerated claim to make a page appear more authoritative. Original, accurate detail about a process can be more useful than a generic list of unsupported numbers.
Use a review checklist
This worksheet is ready to fill with actual observations. It is not a completed indexing audit or a collection of screenshots.
| Check | Evidence to record | Next step if unclear |
|---|---|---|
| Page response | URL, status, date, and relevant HTML | Investigate access or rendering |
| Indexing eligibility | Current setting and inspection evidence | Resolve conflicting directives |
| Main answer | The passage that answers the query | Rewrite for clarity and scope |
| Supporting evidence | Original source or approved business fact | Verify or remove the claim |
| Internal links | A working incoming path and next step | Add a useful descriptive link |
| Observation context | Exact query, date, and permitted capture | Keep the result provisional |
Observe relevant questions consistently
Choose questions based on customer needs. Record the exact query, date, system context, and linked sources when an AI Overview appears. Also record when the feature does not appear, rather than treating every search as the same experience.
An observation is a snapshot. Repeat checks carefully and avoid drawing a broad conclusion from one result.
Track the website outcome
Record page changes alongside search and enquiry observations. Keep impressions, visits, submitted enquiries, and qualified opportunities distinct. A citation alone does not show that someone became a customer.
Use the evidence to choose the next page improvement. If the information is useful but the enquiry path fails, fix that path before expanding the content program.
